CYPRESS STRING QUARTET

Performing Elena Ruehr’s “Bel Canto” String Quartet
Inspired by Ann Patchett’s best-selling novel, with narrated selections read  by Larry Marsland

& Dvorak's String Quartet #12, Op 96, "American"

The Cypress String Quartet has been singled out by Chamber Music Magazine as “a Generation X ensemble to watch.” They bring passion, inspiration and enjoyment to every audience.  Elena Ruehr is an American composer whose music has been called “sumptuously scored and full of soaring melodies” by the New York Times.

The Cypress Quartet commissioned Ruehr to write a piece that responded to a work of literature.  Ruehr chose the best-selling novel Bel Canto by Ann Patchett. The commission was born out of the quartet's commitment to present music as a dynamic and ongoing process of inspiration. 

Proceeds of the concert will benefit Outer Cape Health Services, Inc. Wellfleet Health Center, a non-profit community health center that provides primary, urgent and specialty care to the eight outermost towns on Cape Cod.
